THE PROJECT

Art is, and is made everywhere. In every village and every desert, on every block in every city, in beautiful studios, in looming factories, in prisons, in luxury condos, in broken rooming houses, in grammer schools, in restaurant alleys, in nursing homes - stand anywhere on the planet and somewhere nearby, someone is making art.

This project aims to incite a city-wide public installation of artist's statements to that effect and to document art work from some of the people who make art in Jersey City NJ, where art and its enjoyment has fueled the growth of this historic, diverse, urban center.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

If you live or work in a space in Jersey City, you can participate.

1. Register for the Art is Everywhere JC project by sending your name, address, what neighborhood you live in, and a short description of the kind of art you make to
brainheart2000@gmail.com.

You can also send links to any websites or online photo albums you might have. If you don't have any of these, it doesn't matter. You making art is what matters.

2. Make something that represents you. Hopefully, it is weatherproof. On it, indicate somehow that "Art is here" - somewhere. Use your own words. You could say "I make art" + "here." Or, "Three artists work" + "in this building." Or whatever.

As you can see from our first entries, artists are going to make it as they see it.

3. When your art piece / statement is finished, put it somewhere, preferably outside, prefarably somewhere where you can leave it indefinitely. (Get permission where necessary.) Then, take a picture or two of you with your piece, showing it off as best as you can. Video clips are also accepted.

4. Send pictures and/or video to brainheart2000@gmail.com. If you want, add a comment to add to your post. There is no fee to participate in this project, but you can send a supporting donation to 264 Fairmount Avenue, Jersey City NJ 07306.

When your submission is received and verified, two things will happen: Your pictures and/or video will be posted to the blog, and the Where the Art is map will be updated with a marker for you and a description of your work.

5. Pass it on.

6. Watch what happens.

About the Curator

Trish Szymanski is a community advocate, producer and promoter, curator, business support specialist and the Director of Uptown Crew, a NJ nonprofit corporation whose mission is to expand awareness among the different areas of Jersey City, crossing boundaries of geography, heritage and lifestyle with programming that promotes community and commerce, history and culture, and arts and entertainment.

Szymanski is also an artist. She writes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, songs and works for stage and screen. She studied classical voice and has performed in opera and oratorio productions. She has performed as a singer/songwriter and arranged music for the two main bands she has formed, Simply Nekid and What Exit. She studies acting and has had character roles in numerous theatrical productions. Szymanski's personal foray into visual art has been small but sweet.
